Team Representatives

Team Representatives are the heart of our league! These are volunteer positions that are absolutely integral to the running of PTSL. During registration, all returning players can indicate their interest in becoming a Team Representative for the season. Team Representatives are selected by the collective from the pool of interested players based on their skills in communication, cooperation and embodying the spirit of the league. Strong knowledge of soccer is an asset, but by no means a requirement. Less knowledgeable/experienced Team Representatives will be paired with a more knowledgeable/experienced player who is keen to help in supporting the team. Two players can apply to be Co-Team Representatives of the same team if they are interested.   As a thank you for their contribution to the league, Team Representatives get their fees for the season refunded.  Co-Representatives will each have 50% of their fees refunded. The Collective votes on who will be selected as Team Representative in April of each year.

Team Rep Responsibilities

Your Team Rep is the official point of contact for the team and should be approached with any and all concerns regarding games or the functioning of the league. If for some reason, a player cannot speak to their own Team Rep, they should approach a member of Collective or complete an anonymous feedback form.

Team Representatives are expected to perform the following duties:

  • Attend meetings with the Collective when needed

  • Assist the league with distributing jerseys to team players

  • Act as the liaison between the Collective and team members

  • Communicate league messages to team members

  • Send weekly emails to teams to encourage participation and collect player attendance

  • Fill out the weekly game sheet at every game and text or email a photo of it to the Team Rep Coordinator

  • Take down, store, and set-up nets and equipment on predesignated weeks when their team is playing a 9 am or 3 pm game. (Or assign a team member to perform these duties in their absence)

  • Provide leadership to the team and assist new players with learning the rules of soccer

  • Support skill development when needed

  • Encourage team building and socializing after games

  • Attend and/or promote fundraising and social events. Please encourage everyone in the league – not just your own teammates – to participate in league events and activities. The more people that come out, the more fun it is for everyone!

  • Ensure equitable playing time, fair play, and help make all team members feel welcome on your team and in the league. (Please note that equitable does not always mean equal and that players in the league have different levels of fitness.)

  • Work with the Collective to deal with attendance issues. It is the captain’s responsibility to request replacement players from the waitlist if a member withdraws from their team.

  • Help support and enforce any sanctions placed on individual members delivered by the referee or the Collective (via the arbitration‐committee).

  • The above list of duties and responsibilities undertaken by Team Representatives is not exhaustive. Since PTSL’s objective is to provide the best possible experience to members of our community, amendments may be made during the season.

If you have found a Team Representative to be in breach of this or any of the league’s codes of conduct, including the code of conduct for team representatives please write to PTSLrecsoccer+CR@gmail.com. Your concern will be considered immediately by our conflict resolution coordinator.
